Headed to cow mountain spur of the moment today to play around. Let me know if anyone is in the area and wants to join.

This mountain area was closed for many years due to falling timber, but is now open and a wonderful moderate hiking area.  In 8 miles and 1,400 ft of gain, one can follow the CDT up a beautiful Creek valley, to enormous meadow and then turn left to the ridge top. From there follow an old road back back to the top with an old lookout.  Views West over the Chama basin are impressive and seldom seen.
